Gauntlets...

Gauntlets Gauntlets Coming Fall 2006 Some of you have asked me about the gauntlets (wrist warmers) I have been wearing in some of my photos. Yes, i did knit these myself...they are my favorite thing to knit and I love wearing them in the fall and winter. Unfortunately, I do not have a pattern that I can offer for these....i am horrible at reading knitting patterns and I am what you would call a primitive knitter...I wing it pretty much because I have no clue as to what I am doing. I am self taught, so I am sure that my techniques are totally incorrect, i know nothing about gauges, stitches etc....but hey, I still get a finished product so I can't really complain :) The only thing someone taught me once was how to make drop stitches that look really pretty when using ribbon yarns. Gauntlets Knitting for me has become a deterrent for a nervous habit of mine. I have the tendency to bite my nails and cuticles, a habit that drives my husband up the wall and makes my hands look like a lumberjacks....not very feminine I must say. So i figured that if I keep my hands busy i won't have the chance to bite them...this has worked wonders for me :) So far I have knit a hat (totally incorrectly, but it came out so much better than expected :) and a few pairs of gauntlets. I will be selling scarves and gauntlets, both knitted and from other fibers, for my 2006 Fall/Winter Collection. If any of you have any colors you would like to see, let me know :)I am currently working on a pair for the website I am going to call Romance In Tuscany...beautiful rich Tuscan reds, blues and greens... Thank you again for all of your lovely comments, i wish I had more to offer in the form of a pattern, but like the rest of my art, my knitting is just all over the place :) ***update: I will be making them in guy sizes and colors :) Gauntlets

Sarah, even if you "learned the PROPER way" you'd do it your own way anyhow, right?!

The colors of the yarns are DE-LISH! If I ordered gaunlets from you you'd have to attach a string between the 2 of them so i wouldn't lose them. I may be 40 years old, but sometimes I'm still 4. :c )

I love yarn!!! and anything made with it!

These are beautiful and sooo you!

My hubs bites his fingernails...do you make them in men's sizes and ones that will match business suits? I didn't think so ;)

Fill your life with color...it suits you! xo Darlene

I love the colors here. Bravo-you are a great self teacher!

I have knit a few scarves but never anything like a hat or scarf.

Can't wait to see what you make.

...the gaunlets are brilliant Sarah! I can't wait for them to be on your website! I definitely will be buying a pair! I have been looking for those great fabric bracelets you made a while back, but no luck yet :( As much as I love your jewelery, sadly I can't wear it with my sensitive skin...

...I bite my nails too, by the way. And I have noticed a trend that many very creative people do the same :/

Hoping you and your family are doing great! x

My mom knit me a few pairs of gauntlets (ha, didn't know they were called that until just now) and they were a godsend last winter as my hands are always cold. Yours look so cozy and in such beautiful vibrant colors.

Oooh - I love these! I can't believe you taught yourself how to knit; I'm hopeless when it comes to crafts of any kind. I definitely want some of these!

Wow -- LOVE them! I really like wearing these, too. I have two pair, and I used to especially wear them when I was selling my artwork at an outdoor fair, even in winter. I got into leg warmers then, too. I had a friend who made cool flared leg warmers out of old sweater sleeves. They look very cute over big chunky shoes! I'll look forward to seeing more of your gauntlets.

Love the top photo of you holding the flowers while wearing the gauntlets. They really are beautiful... your post is pretty funny though. You obviously knit better than you think you do - or than you admit to ;) I've got a real thing for gauntlets, too. And, they're more satisfying to make (for me) than similarly small projects like socks (although I knit those, too).

Nothing wrong with primitive. You're like a bird who builds nests. It's just IN you.

They are beautiful, you already know I covet these. Like you I destroy my nails and cuticles and like your husband, it is the bane of mine's existence.
